Responsible Affiliates in Gambling (RAIG) is proposing the licensing or registration of gambling affiliates that operate in the UK market to raise standards. It is noted that the system should not be expensive or burdensome. The RAIG Chairman noted:
The decision to uphold the principle of a licensing or registration system is taken seriously and we have been evaluating the benefits and drawbacks for many months now.
This issue will receive more attention as the revision of the Gambling Act 2005 gains momentum and it is important that we played a constructive role while the rules were being formed, rather than waiting on the sidelines until measures were introduced.
The main goal of the organization is to stir up UK affiliates to promote social responsibility and create a safer environment for players. It is proposed to establish certain minimum requirements for affiliates in order to raise the standards of work. The gambling regulator, the UK Gambling Commission, is proposed for the role of the licensing authority.
